The impact on many displaced families from poor communities in the north of Sri Lanka during the civil war was huge. And the
more recent economic and cost of living crises from 2022 has resulted in an escalating humanitarian emergency with large number of families unable to afford essential food items.

The Sanmarga Trust will respond to humanitarian emergencies allying with charities and partners who carry out support programmes to help poor and vulnerable families. The following case studies provide an illustration of support to the current humanitarian crisis.

  • Food support for vulnerable families

The Sanmarga Trust in partnership with FRIENDS provided dry food rations to over 50 vulnerable families who were unable to afford to purchase food for their meals and were struggling to feed their families.

  • Community Kitchens

The community kitchens providing meals for hundreds of families and school children run by the Voice Foundation began in late May 2022 with the help of volunteers and donations received from individuals and other organisations.
